Fire service close off Union Street after scaffolding banner comes loose on Egyptian Halls

A city centre road has been closed off to all traffic after a banner attached to scaffolding came loose.

Union Street is blocked between Gordon Street and Argyle Street following the incident.

Emergency services are currently on the scene as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deal with the issue.

Drivers are facing huge tailbacks following the incident with buses also rerouted away from the street.

Glasgow Central Station's Union Street entrance is also closed.

Glasgow City Council have advised drivers to use alternative routes if they are driving in the area.

A statement from the council read: "Union Street is currently closed to all traffic between Gordon Street and Argyle Street due to a dangerous/loose poster which is now partially attached to scaffolding.

"Emergency services are currently on location and further updates will be issued when more information is known.

"Road users should consider alternate routes and expect congestion on surrounding streets."
