Fire rips through play park at Blaise Castle in 'arson' attack

A fire has ripped through a popular play park at the Blaise Castle Estate, destroying a children's climbing frame.

It's believed arsonists started the blaze on the playground's two-storey tree house climbing frame and tube slides.

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene off Kings Weston Road at around 8:40pm on Monday (September 30).

The authority's spokesperson said: "We were called at 20:40hrs to reports of play equipment on fire in the Blaise Castle play area in Lawrence Weston.

"One crew from Southmead attended the scene and used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire involving a two-storey playground structure.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition."

Jake Ware spotted the blaze and sent photographs to Bristol Live, he said: "I have three children who love Blaise who will now be devastated."
