Fire rips through home in south London

The fire in Morden - (London Fire Brigade)

A house in Morden erupted into flames on Tuesday morning and the fire spread to the neighbouring properties.

One woman, one man and a boy suffered from smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.

Each floor in the home was destroyed by the fire, as the blaze ripped through the ground and first floors and roof of the two-storey home.

The home next door was also damaged, including its ground floor and roof, and the roof of a third property was completely destroyed.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to the house in Halesowen Road, Morden.

Firefighters used a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower to extinguish the fire from above. Crews also cooled one gas cylinder to an ambient temperature, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

It was removed and placed in a safe location.

The Brigade's 999 Control officers received the first of 18 calls alerting them to the fire just past 4am.

The fire was under control two hours later. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
