AYUTTHAYA: Fire levelled a one-rai cardboard box factory in tambon Sanab Thueb of Wang Noi district early on Monday morning, causing damage estimated at 50 million baht. No one was injured.
The blaze was reported at the Top Gold Products & Packaging Co factory on Phahon Yothin Road about 2am. About 20 fire engines of from Ayutthaya and Saraburi provinces were deployed to battle the fire.
The blaze was declared under control around dawn. The steel structure of the plant caved in, but the flam es did not reach a nearby community. About 80 workers who lived in the 12-rai compound were evacuated.
Chanatthapon Keepputthinat, the 52-year-old owner of the factory, said the fire started in the middle of the plant where there were carboard-cutting machines. He thought a short circuit caused the fire. The factory was not operating at the time.
He estimated the damage at 50 million baht ,which was the cost of the destroyed plant. He had the property insured, but said the payout would not cover all the damage.
