
SAMUT PRAKAN: Fire raged through part of a factory that makes valves and pipe fittings in Phra Pradaeng district early on Wednesday, with damage estimated at 30 million baht or more.
The blaze at the Asahi-Thai Alloy plant in Soi Suk Sawat 78 of tambon Bang Chak was reported about 5.30am, said Pol Capt Samart Satthaya, deputy investigation chief at Phra Pradaeng.
The complex sprawls over about 30 rai of land.
The fire started in a room on the second floor used for coating of water valves and fittings. Ten fire trucks and crews took about 30 minutes to put it out. No injuries were reported.
Police said damage was initially estimated at a minimum of 30 million baht.
Factory guard Somboon Naonongthong, 56, said he was at the security booth at the front of the factory. A taxi motorcyclist told him there was black smoke billowing from the back of the plant.
He hastened to check out the report and saw smoke and flames leaping from coating room. Mr Somboon said he called other guards and employees on the morning shift to help fight the fire, but their efforts were fruitless and they quickly called police.
Forensic investigators were sent to determine the cause of the blaze.
