Fire rages through derelict pub for second time in 18 months

Firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a derelict pub in Widnes tonight.

Pictures sent to the ECHO show fire crews operating at the old Sporting Ford , in the Hough Green area of the town.

Flames can be seen emerging from the roof of the building, which was the scene of a severe fire last year.

Residents said that crews were at the scene from around 8pm and that they could see at least four fire engines at the scene.

Cherry Sutton, the road that runs behind the old pub, was cordoned off while Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service worked at the scene.

A fire gutted the building in what was a suspected arson in March 2018.

That incident took crews 12 and a half hours to deal with.
