Fire investigation teams probe blaze that ripped through Edinburgh flat hospitalising woman

Police are probing a horror fire that ripped through an Edinburgh flat hospitalising a woman.

The causality was taken to hospital after emergency services raced to a property in the capital's Alan Breck Gardens at around 4am on Tuesday December 15.

The female was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she was treated for smoke inhilation.

She was later discharged.

Now a fire investigation team are on the scene examining the area to find out what caused the blaze.

The road was closed for about four hours while emergency services dealt with the fire, which police are now investigating to establish its cause.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 4.11am on Tuesday, December 15 to reports of a fire within a tenement at Alan Breck Gardens, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and a height vehicle to the scene, where crews worked to extinguish the fire.

"There were no reported casualties.

"Firefighters left after making the area safe.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 4.20am on Tuesday, 15 December, 2020, officers received report of a fire at a property on Alan Breck Gardens, Edinburgh.

"One woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with smoke inhalation and has since been released.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire. The road was re-opened around 8.15am.”
