The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission recently began demanding compliance with more stringent cabling regulations by all telecom and broadcasting operators.
The telecom regulator drew up the regulations in consultation with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority. They are aimed at ensuring better public safety and tidying up the mess of cables and wires that have become a feature of the landscape.
Several motorcyclists have been killed or injured recently after being caught up in cables that have fallen across local roads.
