Fire in Knightswood area of Glasgow leaves two people in hospital after high-rise blaze

Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire in a multi-storey block of flats in Glasgow today.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Kirkton Avenue in the Knightswood area of the city at around 5am.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in a property on the 22nd floor of the building.

Three people were passed into the care of the ambulance service and two of them were taken to hospital.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "We were alerted at 4.56am to reports of a fire within a flat on Kirkton Avenue.

"Four fire and one aerial appliance were mobilised to the scene where crews extinguished a fire in a 22nd floor property.

"Three casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance service, two of which were transported to hospital. We have since left the scene."
