Fire in Glasgow home leads police to discover £70,000 worth of cannabis plants

Nearly £70,000 worth of cannabis plants were discovered by police after a fire broke out at a house in Glasgow earlier this week.

Police and fire crews attended the blaze at a property on Duthil Street in Drumoyne after the alarm was raised around 8pm on Wednesday evening.

Officers subsequently discovered a cannabis cultivation within the house, and seized plants worth an estimated street value of £70,000.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 8.30pm on Wednesday, 28 October 2020, police were made aware of a fire at a house in Duthil Street, Drumoyne.  On attendance, officers discovered a cannabis cultivation within.

The plants have been seized and are worth an estimated street value of nearly £70,000.  Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Glasgow Live that three fire engines attended the property on Wednesday evening after the alarm was raised.
