Fire in flat above Betfred bookies in Horfield

Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat above a betting shop in Horfield on Tuesday night.

The fire was in the kitchen of the first floor flat in Gloucester Road, and the road was blocked while crews were at the scene.

One man had to be treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation

An Avon Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “We were called at 19:24 to a fire in the kitchen of a first floor flat on Gloucester Road, Horfield.

“Crews from Temple and Southmead fire stations attended the incident and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire. They also used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke.

“We were joined at the scene by ambulance colleagues who treated one male casualty for smoke inhalation.

“The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental ignition.”
