TRANG: A fire broke out at a rubber glove factory of Thai Kong Company in Kantang district early on Sunday, causing considerable damage, but there were no reports of deaths or injuries, according to a local news report.
The fire, which started at about 4am, engulfed a warehouse building storing rubber gloves.
Six fire engines from Kantang and Nakhon Trang municipalities were despatched to the factory at Moo 6 in tambon Khuan Thani.
After more than four hours, the fire was brought under control but the firefighters continued to spray water to prevent the fire from spreading further in the dry conditions and strong winds.
There were no initial reports of deaths or injuries.
Siripat Patkul, the Trang government, was at the scene on Sunday morning to supervise the firefighting.
The cause of the fire was being investigated and the damage assessed.
According to the company, Thai Kong was founded by investors from Bangkok with registered capital of 625 million baht, and is the first manufacturer of rubber gloves for medical use in Trang. The factory now has about 2,000 employees, with the capacity to produce 4,000 million pairs of rubber gloves, using about 30,000 tonnes of latex, per year.
