PATHUM THANI: A fire gutted a four-unit auto-parts shophouse in Khlong Luang district early Saturday morning, causing damage worth at least 15 million baht.

No casualties were reported in the blaze, which broke out at Bang Phai auto parts shop in Talat Thai market of tambon Khlong Nueng, said police who were alerted at 5am.

More than 20 fire trucks were deployed to the scene to combat the raging fire that spread to four commercial buildings that housed the auto parts shop. Firemen took more than one hour to put out the fire. All people inside the fire-gutted buildings safely escaped.

Kawi Wetyanwirat, 54, owner of the shophouse, told police that he and five family members were sleeping in one of the four units. A fire started on the ground floor of a connected building where auto parts were kept. The fire quickly spread to the other buildings, forcing him and the other family members to run out for their own safety.

Nobody was injured. Damage was estimated at least 15 million baht.

Police declared the four buildings off-limits for fear of collapsing. They were investigating the cause of the fire.
