2 hurt in Old Town fire

Crews responded to a fire in Old Town on Nov. 23. | Sun-Times file

Two people were taken to hospitals Monday afternoon after a fire broke out in an Old Town home on the North Side.

The fire started about 12:20 p.m. in a bedroom of a home in the 500 block of West North Avenue, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Karie James.

A 60-year-old woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for possible smoke inhalation and a mental health evaluation, James said.

A man, 31, was listed in critical condition at the same hospital, police said. He had a fracture and laceration.

A third person inside the home was uninjured, James said.

Police and fire department spokespeople couldn’t immediately confirm initial reports that someone jumped from a window.
