AYUTTHAYA: A huge fire engulfed a warehouse storing wooden pallets close to a petrol station in Bang Pa-in district on Thursday evening. No injuries were reported.

The fire occurred at around 5pm at Wood Pallet warehouse on Highway No 347, Pathum Thani-Pang Pahan route in tambon Bang Krasan of Bang Pa-in district.

More than 10 fire trucks were to douse the flames at the warehouse, near a PT petrol station. The blaze spread quickly and sent plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

Firemen raced against time to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby petrol station. The road was closed to traffic, and police asked north-bound motorists to avoid Highway No 347 by using Highway No 9 instead.

Firemen took more than an hour to put out the fire. There were no injuries, said Pratheep Boriroonrat, chief of the Ayutthaya disaster prevention and mitigation office.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire. Damage was yet to be estimated.
