Fire engulfs five coaches of passenger train in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district; no casualties

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Five coaches of the DEMU train between New Ashti to Ahmednagar caught fire between Narayandoh to Ahmednagar section at around 3 pm on Monday.

No casualty or any injury was reported in the mishap as a small group of passengers in the train got down safely before the spread of fire, Central Railway (CR) authorities said.

“The fire broke out in the guard-side brake van and four adjacent coaches to it. The Railway Accident Relief Train was sent from Daund station to the site. Total fire brigade vehicles also reached the spot,” Chief Public Relations of CR Shivraj Manaspure said, adding that less than 10 passengers were travelling in the train when it caught fire.

The fire in all five coaches was extinguished by 4.10 pm, CR authorities said. The train service was introduced in September last year and facing poor passenger occupancy.
