Fire engine left stranded 150 yards from house fire due to cars parked on road

A Notts fire station has shared its frustration at cars blocking the road after a fire engine was left stranded 150 yards away from a house fire.

Blidworth Fire Station was called to an incident on Rugby Road in Rainworth on Thursday morning (September 5) but they couldn't get to the house.

As a result the crew had to get out of the fire engine and carry life-saving equipment 150 yards up the street on foot.

The watch manager Seth Vasey said: "This is what fire service crews were faced with in the early hours of this morning on Rugby Road, Rainworth, whilst trying to attend an emergency.

"Due to double parking on the street, we had to get out the fire engine and carry life saving equipment 150 yards up the street on foot.

"If this had been a serious house fire, the consequences would have been dire and could have possibly led to prosecution.

"May I also add that we have rights to “forcibly move” vehicles that cause an obstruction to emergency vehicles."

Having to forcibly remove a car is always a last resort for the fire services, and they will try and wake you up first.

Firefighters have been known to knock on doors and blast their sirens to get residents to move their cars.

However, if it doesn't work, they can legally remove the cars by force.
