Fire dismiss coach Veljko Paunovic

Veljko Paunovic won’t be back after all.

The Sun-Times has confirmed a report that Paunovic has been sacked after four seasons. Over his time in Chicago, Paunovic made one postseason appearance.

Throughout the offseason, Joe Mansueto had stated his belief in Paunovic and president/general manager Nelson Rodriguez, but left himself room to evaluate what he had.

Paunovic had been cited by players, notably Nicolas Gaitan, as a reason they joined the Fire. However, Paunovic’s tactics and man-management were questionable, and other than the 2017 season, the Fire failed to gain traction under his leadership.
