Fire damages house near Bristol overnight

This was the scene after a fire broke out in a house under construction near Bristol in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Firefighters in South Gloucestershire tackled a fire at a house still being built in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Crews from Yate fire station were called out to the house in the village of Wickwar at 1.25am.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and hoses to tackle the blaze, and managed to contain it to the kitchen area.

The cause of this fire in Wickwar is not known was not revealed, but Avon Fire and Rescue Service reported that the number of deliberate fires being caused in the city since the coronavirus lockdown began had risen above the normal average.

Saturday’s blaze followed an arson attack earlier this week elsewhere in South Gloucestershire, where four cars were set on fire.
