Fire damaged warehouse to be rebuilt

A Leicestershire warehouse wrecked by a huge fire is set to be rebuilt.

The unit, on Winchester Avenue in Blaby, went up in flames in March last year.

At the height of the blaze more than 40 firefighters from fire stations across the city and county, with support from colleagues from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, were on scene.

The fire reduced the home of Get Laid Beds, New Air Technical Services Ltd, Willoughby Book Club and Utilities Made Simple, to a charred and blackened shell.

An investigation found that the cause of the blaze was accidental with “ignition of waste material in a spray booth” recorded by the fire service.

Now, a planning application has been submitted to Blaby District Council, asking for permission to rebuild the fire damaged units.

The original 19,000 sq ft building was split into four units, the two outer sections remain but need some repair and rebuilding.

However the middle two sections were completely ruined and what was left was then demolished.

A statement submitted as part of the application pack states: “The proposed works are to rebuild the central units and make good any damage to the remaining units.

“The opportunity has been taken to propose new cladding, windows and doors throughout, refreshing the look of the building as a whole.”
