Pensioner dies following fire in East Kilbride tower block

A pensioner has died following a fire in a tower block in East Kilbride last night.

Police and emergency crews raced to the scene in Sadlers Wells Court, after residents raised the alarm around 10:20pm on Thursday, January 23, according to reports.

Up to five fire engines were spotted attending the blaze, with crews still on site this morning.

And police have this morning confirmed that a 65-year-old women died as a result of the fire.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police were called to a report of a fire at a property on Sadlers Wells Court, East Kilbride, around 10.30pm on Thursday, 23 January.

"The fire was extinguished by the SFRS and the body of a 65-year-old woman was recovered from the property.

"A post mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of death.

"A joint investigation will be carried out with the SFRS to establish the cause of the fire".
