Fire crews tackle lorry fire on M5

Firefighters from across Bristol tackled a lorry fire on the M5 overnight.

Crews from Patchway , Southmead and Avonmouth were all called to blaze shortly before 3.30am this morning (October 29).

A picture taken from the scene shows the the burnt out wreckage of the lorry on the side of the carriageway between J17 and J18.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from Patchway, Southmead and Avonmouth were called at 3.23am on October 29 to a fire involving a lorry on the M5 J17-18.

"Two breathing apparatus and two high pressure hose reels were used."

We are currently reporting live updates on long delays on the M4 and M5 after a motorbike crash at the Almondsbury Interchange.

The incident led to a lane closure near J18, with Highways England warning motorists to take care on approach.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed ambulance crews were not in attendance.
