Fire crews tackle lorry blaze at Newbridge petrol station

A lorry was spotted on fire this afternoon at the BP garage in Edinburgh.

The vehicle was pictured with significant amounts of smoke billowing out of the engine and above the main cabin at the Newbridge petrol station.

The fire began at approximately 1.30pm this afternoon, with fire crews pictured in attendance alongside staff from the petrol station, who all appear to be wearing high visibility vests and complying with social distancing.

Two fire engines attended the scene and the blaze was very quickly extinguished. It is unclear as to what the cause of the fire was, however there were no casualties from the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said:

“We were alerted at 1.21pm on Monday May 11 to reports of a fire involving lorry at a petrol station in Newbridge, Edinburgh. Two fire appliances were mobilised to the scene, and crews extinguished the flames. There were no reported casualties. Crews ensured the area was safe and left at 1.47pm.”
