Fire crews tackle large building blaze as people urged to close windows and doors

FIRE crews are battling a building blaze which took hold on Sunday night in North Lanarkshire, as residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed.

Emergency services were called to a report of a building fire at Belhaven Terrace in Wishaw at around 10.35pm on Sunday.

Six fire trucks are at the scene dealing with the blaze, and there are no reported injuries.

Firefighters are expected to be in the area for some time, and residents and businesses in the area have been told to keep windows and doors closed.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Six fire appliances and one height vehicle are at the scene of a fire affecting a building at Belhaven Terrace, Wishaw.

“We were first alerted to the incident at 10.35pm on Sunday, August 10. There are no reports of any casualties, and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

“We are mindful of smoke travel, and we’d advise local residents and businesses to keep windows and doors closed.

“Those living in the wider area should be vigilant, and if you can see or smell smoke, take the same action.”
