Fire crews tackle large blaze after static caravan homes go up in flames

Crews are currently battling a large blaze on the outskirts of Edinburgh after a number of caravans went up in flames.

Emergency services were called to the scene in the Straiton area at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

The fire initially started in a shed before spreading to six nearby static caravans.

Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen by drivers on the Edinburgh City Bypass as the blaze took hold of the properties.

The fire service has six appliances at the scene and are still tackling the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.27pm on Tuesday, June 2 to reports of a fire in the Straiton area of Edinburgh.

"Six appliances are currently in attendance, and crews are tackling a fire involving a shed which has spread to nearby static homes.”
