Fire crews tackle huge blaze at derelict hotel in Scottish city

FIRE CREWS are tackling a blaze at a derelict hotel in Fife as residents have been told to stay vigilant and “take action” if they see any smoke.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said they were alerted to the blaze at a derelict building on Queensferry Road, Dunfermline, at around 3:07am on Wednesday.

Six fire appliances and specialist resources are currently at the scene of the fire which, according to local reports, is at the former King Malcolm Hotel.

SFRS said there are no reports of any casualties and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

A spokesperson added that local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed and have asked people living in the wider area to remain vigilant and to “take action” if they see or smell any smoke.

It has become a hotspot for incidents, including break-ins, vandalism and anti-social behaviour, as it was set alight in July.

In a statement a SFRS spokesperson said: “Six fire appliances and specialist resources are currently at the scene of a fire affecting a derelict building on Queensferry Road, Dunfermline.

“We were first alerted to the incident at 3.07am on Wednesday, 13 August. There are no reports of any casualties and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

“We are mindful of smoke travel and we’d advise local residents to keep windows and doors closed.

“Those living in the wider area should be vigilant and if you can see or smell smoke, take the same action.”
