Fire crews tackle blaze at Knightswood high rise flats

Fire crews were called Knightswood last night (Tuesday) after a fire broke out in a tower block.

Michael Cullen, councillor for the Garscadden/Scotstounhill Ward, posted photos of the blaze at the Kingsway flats, which show flames coming from the second top floor of the high rise.

Multiple fire and rescue service vehicles were also spotted at the scene.

It is unknown if there have been any injuries at this stage.

At 8.09pm last night, Mr Cullen commented: "Fire Incident Kingsway Flats: Ongoing incident at Kingsway Flats please let @FireKnightswood deal with this and I hope everyone is safe!"

UPDATE: A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed: "We were alerted at 7.43pm on Tuesday, December 10 to reports of a fire alarm actuation at a block of flats on Kingsway Court, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised five fire appliances and one aerial appliance to the scene, where firefighters extinguished a fire within a bin room on the 18th floor of the building.

"There were no reported casualties, and all occupants were accounted for within the affected floors.

"Crews ventilated the affected floors, and left at 10.03pm after ensuring the area was safe."
