Fire crews tackle blaze after suspected arson attack at old school in Athboy, Co Meath

A former school went up in flames in a suspected arson attack in Athboy, Co Meath.

The incident happened at a premises on O'Growney Street in the town last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 9.15pm to tackle the blaze.

It is understood that the building used to be a primary school, but is currently vacant.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a suspected criminal damage by fire incident that occurred at approximately 9.15pm on Wednesday, February 12 at a vacant building at O’Growney Street, Athboy, County Meath.

"No injuries were reported.

"No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
