Fire crews swoop on East Kilbride Aldi after car bursts into flames

Fire crews have swooped on an Aldi supermarket in East Kilbride after a car burst into flames.

Emergency services were called the scene of the fire at Mavor Avenue in the Lanarkshire town just before 7pm on Monday, May 4.

One fire appliance was sent to the scene where the blaze was extinguished.

It is not currently known how the fire started.

An eyewitness described seeing the vehicle engulfed in flames as fire crews worked to contain it.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were called to the scene of a car fire on Mavor Avenue at 6.56pm on Monday May 4 2020.

"One appliance was in attendance.

"Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and are no longer at the scene."
