Fire crews still working at 'ongoing' large fire at industrial estate in Bircotes

Fire crews are still working on damping down a large fire which broke out at an industrial estate.

The blaze started at the estate on Plum Tree Road in Bircotes at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 20.

Pictures taken from the scene shows the scale of the fire, with plumes of smoke billowing out of one of the buildings as fire crews worked at the scene.

The fire service is still working at Plum Tree Road a day later on Wednesday, more than 12 hours after it originally broke out.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said in a statement on Wednesday, April 21: "The incident on Plum Tree Road is still ongoing.

"We currently have one appliance in attendance, and they are working hard to dampen down the fire."

This has been scaled down from eight appliances the previous night - with Retford, Harworth, Mansfield, Worksop, Edlington, Stavely, Rotherham and Doncaster crews all in attendance.

The incident was scaled down at approximately 8pm on Tuesday, however residents nearby were still asked to keep their doors and windows closed.

Smoke could be seen from miles away when the blaze first broke out at the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
