Fire crews spend hours tackling blaze at Gorton allotment

Firefighters spent hours tackling a blaze at an allotment site in Gorton.

Fire crews were called to Gorton Reservoir Allotments on Alston Road at around 11.30pm on Friday (April 22). Four fire engines from Gorton, Phillips Park and Ashton fire stations all rushed to the scene.

Pictures taken by nearby residents showed thick black smoke billowing towards the sky in the early hours of this morning. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson said: “At 11:30pm on Friday 22 April 2022, four fire engines from Gorton, Philips Park and Ashton fire stations attended a fire at an allotment on Alston Road, Gorton.

“Firefighters used two jets, one hose reel, lighting equipment and turning over gear to extinguish the fire and crews were in attendance for approximately two hours.”
