Fire crews seal street off as blaze rips through old warehouse

A street was completely closed while firefighters worked to put out a blaze at a disused warehouse.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 7.14pm on Tuesday, May 31 reporting a disused warehouse was on fire on Haddock Street in Vauxhall. Five fire engines arrived at the scene two minutes later as crews found a portacabin inside the warehouse well alight.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and entered the building. They used hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

By 8pm the main body of the fire was extinguished by the crews and work began to dampen down and ventilate the warehouse. A cordon was put in place around the building while firefighters worked at the scene.

Merseyside Police were not in attendance at the scene.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: "We are currently in attendance at a warehouse fire on Haddock Street, Liverpool L20. Five fire engines are currently in attendance as well as an aerial appliance.

"On arrival crews found a portacabin inside a disused warehouse well alight. Please avoid the area."
