Fire crews scrambled to huge blaze at farm

Firefighters have been scrambled to a fire at a farm in Bolton.

Huge clouds of thick black smoke could be seen billowing across Westhoughton shortly after 4pm on Sunday.

The blaze is believed to have started at a farm building near to Bolton Road.

The cause is not yet known.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing several fire engines at the scene.

Flames from the fire could also be seen by motorists on the M61.

Westhoughton councillor Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon said: "It was the hay barn that was on fire.

"The horses are all fine.

"Emergency services were to the scene and the fire is now out.

"Police have also been up."
