Fire crews scrambled after blaze breaks out in bedroom of flat

Fire crews raced to the scene of a flat fire in Gorton.

Three fire engines were scrambled to the scene on Wellington Street at 5pm.

The fire involved the bedroom of the flat.

There have been no reported injuries.

Fire crews from Gorton and Ashton-under Lyne attended.

No further details have been revealed.

The flat is above a bike shop - part of a parade of shops along the road.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and remained at the scene in the aftermath.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 5pm on Wednesday, 21 April, three fire engines from Gorton and Ashton-under-Lyne were called to reports of a fire on Wellington Street, in Gorton.

"The fire involved the bedroom of a domestic property.

"Firefighters used one hose reel, two breathing apparatus, a hearth kit and a positive pressure ventilation fan to bring the fire under control.

"Fire crews remain at the scene at this time."
