Fire crews rush to Renfrew street after number of vehicles go up in flames

Firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at an industrial estate in Renfrew during the early hours of this morning.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were deployed to Meadowside Street in the town at around 12.50am.

A number of residents in the area reportedly heard ‘explosions’ as flames continue to engulf the area.

Several vehicles were on fire on the Renfrew street, which then spilled onto the roof of an adjacent building.

Twitter user @gwr_67 said: “Something just exploded in Renfrew.”

Robert Gifford added in a tweet: “Huge explosion in Renfrew across the Clyde from Yoker . What’s going on?”

Glasgow Live has been reporting that four Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances and an aerial unit were called to scene.

The fire has since been extinguished, with one fire crew remaining in the area this morning.

It is unclear how the blaze was started and which building caught fire.

No one was injured in the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.48am on Friday, August 16 to reports of a number of vehicles on fire on Meadowside Street, Renfrew.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances and an aerial unit to the scene, where crews extinguished the fire, which had also spread to an adjacent roof.

"There were no casualties.

“One fire engine currently remains on the scene.”
