Fire crews rush to Glasgow's Duke Street to fight massive blaze after 'huge explosion'

Fire crews have rushed to an area in the east end of Glasgow amid reports of an explosion.

Pictures from Duke Street, Dennistoun, this evening show thick clouds of black smoke billowing out from what seems to be a massive fire at a derelict building.

Video sent to The Record shows firefighters breaking their way into the building which is engulfed in flames.

Locals in the area reported hearing a loud bang before seeing thick clouds of smoke coming from the scene.

Police have corned off the area, with fire crews reportedly rushing to the scene after being called around 8.40pm.

There have so far been no reports of any injuries.

One eyewitness told the Record: "There was this massive explosion.

"Nobody knows what it is, but it was really loud and we even felt it in our flats before going out to have a look. Our dogs started barking straight away, along with many others in our street.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said:   "In the vicinity of Duke Street in Glasgow we're attending a derelict building on fire.

"We got quite a lot of repeat calls in around 8.40pm."
