Fire crews rush to Glasgow Fort after sign blown off Topshop due to high winds

Fire crews rushed to Glasgow Fort this afternoon after signage from Topshop blew off due to high winds - as the bad weather continues to pose problems across the city.

An area of the shopping and leisure park, located off the M8 in the east of the city, was cordoned off to shoppers - with reports reaching us that some shops were closing as a result.

A member of the public contacted Glasgow Live to advise that a section of signage had blown off and a cordon put up, with security telling people to leave the area as fire crews attended.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: Two appliances attended the Glasgow Fort this afternoon amid reports of signage hanging off a building. Crews attended to make that safe and they are no longer on the scene".

The news comes after two pedestrians were struck by a shop sign that had blown off Marks & Spencer on Argyle Street in Glasgow city centre.

Meanwhile Traffic Scotland have issued a warning to drivers across the city to use caution when driving due to surface water affecting conditions on the road.

Glasgow Fort have been contacted for comment.
