Fire crews return to site of blaze at former additional support needs school

FIREFIGHTERS have returned to the scene of a fire at a former additional support needs school in East Dunbartonshire.

The blaze broke out at the disused Campsie View School on Boghead Road in Lenzie just before 11pm on Friday, August 22.

The building was completely destroyed by the flames after five appliances were deployed to the scene.

Nearby residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed, with several households evacuated as a precaution. All have since been allowed to return home and no injuries were reported.

Crews brought the fire under control and left the area on Saturday.

However, two fire engines returned to the former school on Sunday after fresh reports of smoke.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said firefighters are working to extinguish remaining hot spots.

Police closed Spruce Drive, Heather Drive, Heather Place and Boghead Road during the incident. All roads have now reopened.

Police Scotland said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Campsie View School previously catered to around 100 children and young people with additional support needs. In August 2023, it was merged with the new Woodland View Primary School.
