An elderly woman became trapped inside her home after a fire broke out in her kitchen.

Firefighters from across Leeds were alerted to the incident on Emmett Drive in Rawdon at around 8pm on Saturday, December 7.

A member of the public called West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service after hearing a fire alarm going off at a property nearby and three crews were quickly dispatched from Rawdon, Cookridge and Stanningley stations.

They arrived to find an elderly woman trapped inside her house as the fire took hold in the kitchen.

Firefighters managed to rescue the woman and get her outside, where she was assessed by paramedics. She has since been taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
