Fire crews remain on scene of Pollokshields blaze with no reports of casualties

Firefighters remain on the scene of a huge blaze which took hold of a tenement building in Pollokshields.

Fire crews raced to Kenmure Street shortly before 5pm yesterday evening to tackle the flames, with smoke seen billowing across Glasgow's south side.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Glasgow Live this morning, thankfully, no casualties have been reported.

The fire, which at its height was being battled by nine separate SFRS crews, is the second to occur in the Pollokshields area in four months after a similar blaze at a shop on the junction of Albert Drive and Kenmure Street in November.

Yesterday, a local resident and eyewitness told us 'the loss everyone will suffer is unbearable', saying: "we were absolutely devastated at the first fire on Kenmure Street, and cannot believe it’s happening again."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: "We were alerted at 4.53pm on Wednesday, April 1 to reports of a well-developed fire within a tenement building on Kenmure Street, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised nine appliances including two height appliances at the height of the fire.

"One fire appliance remains in attendance as firefighter work to make the area safe.

"There were no reported casualties."
