Fire crews remain at scene after blaze devastates two homes on Scots street

Fire crews remain at the scene after two devastating house blazes on a Scots street last night.

Locals had to be evacuated as the inferno torched the two homes in Findhorn Crescent, Inverkip, Inverclyde after breaking out at around 5.35pm.

Six engines raced to the scene to tackle the flames and spent hours at the scene.

A height vehicle was used to get above the fire and shoot water into the blaze.

Luckily nobody was hurt in the fire but the people in the two homes have not been able to return.

It is unclear the cause at this time.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said crews remained on the scene this morning.

She said: "We were alerted at 5.35pm on Sunday to a fire in two properties on Findhorn Crescent, Inverkip.

“Operations Control mobilised six appliances to extinguish the fire and crews remain at the scene.

“There are no reported casualties at this time.”

Last night bosses at Inverclyde Council said homes had to be evacuated due to the closeness of the blaze to gas lines.

A statement issued last night read: "Due to a house fire in Inverkip and concern about how it is affecting other properties and how close it is to the gas main some homes have been evacuated.

"Our Inverclyde HSCP colleagues have arranged to open Inverkip Hub to support residents."‬

An updated statement said:"On advice of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and gas services, residents are able to return to their homes except two properties directly affected by the Inverkip fire.

"There are no injuries or casualties reported. Please support emergency services and stay away from the location.‬"
