Fire crews release dramatic video as Monaghan wildfire extinguished

Fire crews have extinguished a wildfire burning in the Bragan area of Co Monaghan.

Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection released a dramatic video of the smoldering countryside on Saturday night, as crews brought the blaze under control.

Teams from Monaghan, Ballybay and Clones attended the scene at Bragan on Saturday.

Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection posted pictures on Twitter showing crews dousing the wildfire with foam, while thick smoke bellowed from the fields.

On Friday, the fire service issued a Condition Orange high-risk warning for the region.

The order is in place until 12 noon on Monday (July 26).

The order advises that controlled burning is prohibited in Co Monaghan for the effective period.

Meanwhile, Fire Safety Ireland shared advice on reducing the risk of wildfires in the countryside.

It said visitors should ensure cigarettes and other smoking materials are extinguished, while bottles and glass should not be left in woodlands as sunlight shining through glass can start fires.

It added barbecues should only be used in suitable and safe areas.
