Fire crews were called to West Lothian as thick smoke billowed was spotted billowing above a town.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the blaze, involving six garden buildings, a garage and a car on Broxburn's Melbourne Road, at around 5.30pm on Sunday.

Officers said the fire broke out in the garden buildings before spreading to a garage containing a car, with shocking images from the scene showed black plumes of smoke over the town.

Fire crews told the Daily Record that 'no persons were involved' and that no one was injured in the fire.

Two jets and a high-pressure hose reel were used to bring the blaze under control, while local police officers were called in to help manage traffic as three fire appliances were despatched to the road.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told the Record: "We got called out at 5.27pm to Melbourne Road in Broxburn.

"Crews are still in attendance.

"Three fire appliances were sent to the scene. Six garden buildings were alight. The fire spread to a adjoining garage as well as a car within the garage.

"Crews are still at work with two main jets and a high-pressure hose reel.
