Fire crews race to tackle wildfire blaze in Shotts

As Shotts sizzled on Easter Monday fire crews raced to tackle a blazing wildfire.

The blaze ripped through fields next to Calderhead Road as temperatures soared.

Thick plumes of white smoke billowed out onto the road, with seven fire appliances working to get the fire under control.

Police teams were also in attendance to investigate and ensure no-one was injured.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.30pm on Monday to reports of a large grass fire at Shotts, North Lanarkshire.

“Operations Control mobilised seven fire appliances to the scene where crews extinguished the fire. There were no casualties, and firefighters left at 7.56pm.”

The fire was not the only one in Scotland on Easter Monday, with a blaze in Moray sparking a massive response.
