Fire crews race to tackle blaze at school near M8

Firefighters have raced to the scene of a blaze at a school near the M8 motorway, close to Cowcaddens, to the north of Glasgow City Centre.

Smoke can be seen coming from Abercorn Secondary School, on Garscube Road, and fire crews are at the incident after receiving a call just before 6.20pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "I can confirm we're in attendance at Gasrscube Road at the moment.

"We received the initial call at 18.19pm.

"We've got no further information at this time."

UPDATE: The fire service have since confirmed there was a blaze in a refuse container outside the school.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and also checked inside the building to ensure there were no problems.

There were no reports of any injuries.
