Fire crews race to scene of Motherwell car blaze as locals report ‘explosion’

Fire crews raced to the scene of a large car fire in Motherwell.

Emergency services were called to the the Tesco Express in the Bell Quadrant of Carfin around 5pm on Monday February 1.

Witnesses described the vehicle ‘exploding' in the incident.

Police are not treating the blaze as suspicious at this time.

Photos showed the car fully lit before a fire crew arrived to extinguish it.

A caption with an image posted online said: "It just exploded."

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed one engine was dispatched from the local Motherwell station to tackle the blaze.

They said no-one was injured in the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We attended a car fire in Carfin today to assist a Scottish Fire and Rescue crew at the scene.

“No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

“At this stage it does not appear to be suspicious.”
