Emergency services rushed to the scene of the blaze at the commercial unit on Patrick Street just after 2pm on Saturday January 9.

Five fire engines were sent to the incident, with police also attending. Officers cordoned off the area to assist fire crews.

Firefighters remain at the scene, however there are not thought to be any casualties.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.07pm on Saturday January 9 to reports of an exploding gas cylinder at a commercial unit at Patrick Street, Greenock, Inverclyde.

"Operations control mobilised five appliances to the scene where crews remain as they dampen down the single-storey building, and there are no reported casualties at this time.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.20 pm on Saturday, 9 January, 2021, officers were called to Greenock Ocean Terminal to assist the Scottish and Fire Rescue Service with a cordon in relation to an ongoing incident."
