Fire crews race to huge blaze in Glasgow as flames seen towering over new build estate

Fire crews raced to a blaze near a Glasgow housing estate that started overnight.

Officers were called to Brickfield Crescent in the Eglinton Toll area just before 3am on Tuesday.

The Sugar Rush dessert shop has been destroyed in the blaze.

Shocking images show huge flames towering over the new build estate in the south side of the city.

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident to the Daily Record later on Tuesday morning.

While crews remain on the scene, the fire is now extinguished.

Nobody was injured.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.59am on Tuesday, March 23, to reports of a building on fire in the vicinity of St Andrews Road at Brickfield Crescent, Pollokshields, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and one aerial rescue pump to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“There were no reported casualties and crews remain on the scene.”
