Fire crews race to Edinburgh church amid ongoing incident as road closed

Fire crews have raced to an Edinburgh church amid an ongoing incident.

Six fire engines were called to Pilrig St. Paul's Church on Pilrig Street at around 6:30pm on Monday, November 29.

Leith Walk was partly closed as Lothian Buses warned passengers were being diverted and to expect delays.

The nature of the incident remains unclear but Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the response is now being 'scaled back'.

One eyewitness told Edinburgh Live he spotted four fire engines with hoses out on the street.

It's not yet known if anyone has been injured.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We received the call at around 6:33pm.

"Operations control mobilised six appliances to Pilrig St. Paul's Church on Pilrig Street, Edinburgh."
