Fire crews race to blaze on Scots street as thick smoke seen billowing from buildings

Emergency crews raced to a blaze on a Scots street as thick smoke was seen billowing out from the buildings.

Firefighters and police were called to reports of two buildings on fire on Chapel Street in Buckhaven, Fife around 3.15pm today.

Two engines from Methil were sent to the scene and spent around 45 minutes battling the flames from the two garages.

Dramatic pictures posted online by Fife Jammers today show black smoke pouring into the sky over the town.

Nobody was hurt but it is unclear how badly damaged the garages and their contents are from the blaze.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that the buildings had been 'well alight' when firefighters arrived.

She said: "We attended a fire at Buckhaven with the call coming in at 3.17pm.

"It was two domestic garages well alight. Two crews from Methil attended and used a hose reel jet and a main jet.

"There were no casualties.

"Police were also in attendance. Our stop message came back at 4.04pm with the least appliance leaving at 4.45pm."
